What a busy week we have had this week making our Lollipop signs! This involved some tricky work drawing round plates, then looking at an example Lollipop to get the design just right. This was followed by gluing and more practise of our scissor skills, and some us had a go at writing by dots too! We hope you liked our finished signs and have fun practising with them! We finished reading our 'Ziggy and the Lollipop' book and everyone should have a copy, either from last year or given this week to children new to our nursery. We also had group discussions and tours round the garden to look at the plants we could touch or eat, and had fun playing a 'yes, no' game with our garden plants flash cards.
Just so parents/carers are aware in advance, we will be putting new signs on our nursery gate to request adults to wait for a member of staff to open it. This is an action from our start of term SIMOA assessment as part of the Care Inspectorate's 'Look, Think, Act' campaign for keeping children safe in a childcare setting. It will also provide continuity for the children who are taught that only a teacher should touch the gate, and we would ask for your support in reinforcing this message with them.
Next week we are going to be re-introducing some of our regular weekly activities which have been on hold during our settling in weeks, On Monday, we will be heading out on our first Explorers in the woods. Please make sure that your child arrives at nursery ready for our adventure - they will need appropriate shoes for the weather and waterproofs. No shorts please, as the ticks are still about! On Thursday we will be doing our first P.E. lesson - if you have not already provided these, we would be grateful if your child had appropriate indoor shoes for this (not Crocs or slippers please!). We do have some black gym shoes at nursery, and will try to help if we can if children do not yet have their own.
It looks like it's going to be a lovely weekend - enjoy the photos and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
Weeks commencing: 15th, 21st and 28th August 2023 - As we have a couple of new-starts, we are going to continue this week with our focus on learning how we keep safe at Nursery.
Parents can help us by:
Talking about the importance of not touching/eating plants without asking an adult first.
Reminding children to 'Stop, Look and Listen' when crossing the road/car park.
Encourage children to wash their hands frequently using the 'wet-soap-lather (20 seconds!)-rinse-dry' procedure. You could sing the song with them!
See how many times you can spot their fruit/veg symbol (at home, magazines, shops etc.)
Point out different road signs and discuss what they mean.
What a lovely week we've had a nursery! Our new starts have definitely settled in well, and have been great at picking up and following the nursery routines - we have seen great lining up, crossing the car park safely, hand-washing, and sitting in circle time -well done everyone! We were joined by another couple of new starts, Freya and Murdo, who have also settled in great and have had lots of fun with their new (and old!) friends.
This week we were busy making our own 'Super Safe Superhero!' masks, practicing our fine motor skills to colour and cut and then glue our masks onto cardboard - we saw some great scissors skills! Our masks have given us fantastic Superhero powers for helping us stay safe at nursery.
We have also had lots of time for other fun learning activities outside and indoors, which you will see from the photographs - enjoy looking through them, and we hope you have a lovely weekend.
Week Commencing 14th August.
Welcome everyone to the start of the new term, especially to our new nursery families! We have had a fantastic first week and have been so impressed with how well our newbies have settled in, and how great our returning children have been at helping them! Our new starts have had a lot of fun exploring our nursery garden and classroom, meeting new friends and becoming familiar with our nursery routines. We were amazed at how quickly they became familiar with their fruit or veg symbols, and were able to recognise their own sign in cards, water bottles and indoor pegs - well done everyone!
It was lovely to see our 'big kids' back after the holidays and and hear all about their summer adventures. They have been a great help to the teachers showing the new kids the ropes - how and when we wash our hands, the 'wash your hands' song (perhaps you have heard it at home!), what plants we can touch and eat in the nursery garden, where we are allowed to climb, the purpose and meaning of our "STOP!" signs, and how to line up and follow each other so that we can stay safe when crossing the car park and walking in the corridors in the school. Phew, what a lot of things to learn in the first week!
We also started looking at road safety and and the children enjoyed reading some of "Ziggy and the Lollipop", the first book of the Road Safety Scotland's 'Go Safe with Ziggy' set - they will be bringing their own book home for you to enjoy together! We have been practising how to cross the car park safely when going between the nursery garden and the school, and it would be great if parents could support us with this by ensuring that children stay close to an adult and are not allowed to run or cycle across the car park on their own.
Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week!
