Dual Slalom Ski Race - 2nd October
Today, some of our pupils took part in the SSSA Dual Slalom race at Glenmore Lodge. All the pupils did really well, and enjoyed their day of racing. A huge thank you to all of the parents for taking the children and supporting them on the day.
Science Skills Academy - STEM Trip
Report by Ava - 15.9.23
On Thursday this week we went on a school trip to the YMCA. There we learned about energy and the differences between renewable energy and fossil fuels. In the morning we did a quiz on what objects use which energy. Each pair had some cards and had to hold up the card that they thought was the sort of energy that the object used. Some examples of the cards were: Gravitational, movement, heat, light, elastic, and chemical. We then got into groups of four and we went round different tables which had different objects and we had to decide what sort of energy went into the objects and what energy came out and what sort of energy was wanted from the object and what sort of energy still happened but we didn’t need. In the afternoon we used Littlebits which are basically small pieces of electric circuit components which are magnetic then we were given a list of things to make with them such as an indicator for a car or police lights. The trip was really fun and everyone enjoyed it lots.
8th September - Term 1 Week 4 Blog
This week as part of our topic on parliaments and governments we had a House of Commons style debate. We used our persuasive writing pieces about school uniform to help us form our arguments and then held a debate following the rules that MPs have to use. Everyone enjoyed the debate and there were some great speeches and well-made arguments.
1st September: Week 3 Blog by Mara
We have had a great third week of school. On Monday, we went out to celebrate our successes from the Badenoch Gardening Club show, where the school won lots of prizes including Best in Show for our hanging basket!
In PE we’ve been learning football and hockey skills, which most of us are enjoying, and have had quite a lot of little matches as well.
We’ve been continuing with our Topic Maths - we’re currently learning about graphs, charts and information handling.
Our Topic is Governments, so on Tuesday we learnt about democracy and dictatorship and what they mean, and on Thursday we wrote about why school uniform should/shouldn’t be compulsory, using persuasive language.
25th August - Blog Update by Eve
This week we have been very busy with maths, fun activities, the polytunnel and more. We have enjoyed this week thoroughly and are happy to share what we have been up to.
At the polytunnel some p7s helped Lynne with moving some plants and getting our entries ready for the Garden Show in Newtonmore. On Wednesday we had a demonstration of brass instruments by the new brass instructor, Mr Farmer. The class have also been busy doing some art and maths and our topic on Governments and Parliaments. They drew the houses of parliament and in maths we’re focusing on bar graphs and other charts and information tables.
15th August - Back to School!
A great first day back at school saw P6/7 enjoy a sunny afternoon helping in the polytunnel and garden. There were lots of jobs to be done, including getting some of the produce ready for the Badenoch gardening show, plus using tools to secure the netting for the sweet peas and sunflowers.
