Week commencing Monday the 30th October
We have all had a very happy Halloween this week with the children enjoying a variation of activities. We explored pumpkins and turnips, hollowing the pumpkins out and some of us even tried pumpkin soup!. We had fun in the gym hall with the children practicing their good listening skills moving their bodies to the Room on the Broom story with music.
We talked about The story of Halloween in Scotland, guising, turnip lanterns and we read about staying safe at Halloween with'Ziggy's Halloween wish. Using a variety of ingredients we made potions and Mrs Wisely helped us make a real fizzy potion. Some of the children explored measure and comparing sizes with our paper clips.
On Thursday we had fabulous fun on Explorers, looking out for signs of Autumn and we even used some of the beautiful leaves we gathered to finish our frieze in our home corner window.
Lastly as this has been my last week here in Abernethy Nursery, I would like to thank all our lovely nursery children and staff for making my time here so enjoyable.
All the best and have a lovely weekend and Mrs Wisely and Mrs Wells will see you all on Monday for more nursery fun.
Week Commencing Monday 23rd October
It was lovely to see all the children back at nursery and hear all about their holiday stories!
This week, we continued harvesting our apples which was an easy job as so many of them had fallen off the trees in the wind! We were intrigued to find quite a few of them had been half munched and rabbits, mice and dinosaurs were popular suggestions for what might have been at them! We got out the fancy apple peeler again to make sure that those who were absent before the holidays got a go, and we prepared and stewed the peeled apples once more for snack - yummy!
It was threatening to rain on Wednesday morning as we headed out on Explorers so just to make sure we stayed dry, we enjoyed having snack inside our bivvy tent - it made us all a very funny colour! Our window scene in the nursery classroom is needing a refresh and the children decided that the new frieze should have an autumn theme, so after snack we collected different bits and pieces from the forest floor that we thought would be good for making this. We started to create this indoors and will be putting it on display when we have it completed - watch this space!
We look forward to seeing everyone this week for more fun and learning at Nursery!
Week Commencing Monday 2nd October
We were delighted this week to welcome Mrs Wisely, our new EYP, to Nursery! Some of our children who also go to Rosebuds were quite surprised to see Mrs Wisely in the garden on Monday morning and were finding a bit tricky to not call her Lorna!
We had a busy week harvesting the apples from our tree, picking the ripest and wrapping them in glossy paper to store in our shed. On Friday, we peeled some apples using Mrs Roberts fancy apple peeler, after which we chopped and stewed them before having them with our snack. We got some mixed reviews from the children, but everybody did try a spoonful or two!
On Wednesday we had a visit from Tricia and Bertie from Childsmile who talked to us about how and when we should clean our teeth. Tricia was very impressed by how well the children sat and listened, and answered questions.
Thursday we headed out on Explorers and after listening to the story of The Three Little Pigs, we had great fun building houses made of sticks. Much as we tried the children could not blow the stick house down! We had a bit of a techy afternoon and the children were given the opportunity to learn how to code the Beebot to make it travel along the street mat. We also set up some games on the smart board which was the first time for some of our new children to use the touch screen.
We have been practicing a lot this week how to cough and sneeze into our elbows. We have also discussed the importance of washing our hands after blowing our nose, or if we use our hands to cover our mouths when we cough or sneeze. With the increase in bugs and viruses at this time of year it would be great if parents could remind children of this over the holidays.
It has been a very busy term with lots of fun and learning! Hope you all enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 23rd of October.
