Weeks commencing Monday 20th and 27th November
As the children had noticed a lot of transport activity and overhead aeroplanes, we decided it might be interesting to look at all the different vehicles we see at Nursery. In the garden we often see aeroplanes and buses, and sometimes we hear the steam train.
Inside we constructed our own vehicles using a verity of resources, the children had great fun designing using magnetic lego and cardboard boxes. During Explorers and in the Nursery garden the children took turns mark making on our transport survey. They were very supportive of each other working well as a team spotting cars, buses and tractors and even a couple of bikes. We heard aeroplanes, and possibly the steam train. This might have been the wind!
We made our own vehicle designs using different shapes, the children were keen to share what shapes they had used in their pictures. We had lots of fun learning how to code with the Beebot, using our shape mat.
One very wet day we had P.E in the hall learning to share space safely while moving, using hula hoops as puddles. Then we had lots of fun being different kinds of beans in a rainy day story.
The snow arrived!!! We have had lots of fun making snow angels, playing snowballs and having a snowy Explorers walk. We had our snack in the outdoor class room before returning to the Nursery garden.
St Andrews day, we had some ceilidh dancing and some of the children wore tartan. We watched the C-beebies story on St.Andrews day.
We are very excited that our mushrooms have started to appear, tiny but they are there and we are being very careful not to touch them. we have also got a hyacinth bulb growing in water, hydroponics. This allows the children to watch the roots system grow as well as the plant.
Weeks commencing Mondays 6th and 13th November
Apologies for the lack of Blog last week due to IT issues!
Our main topic over the last couple of weeks has been learning about fruit and vegetables, and whether the foods that we eat come from a plant or an animal. We had lots of fun feeling the different textures and cutting open a range of fruit and veg to see what was inside. We were surprised to learn that some things that we thought were vegetables, like tomatoes and cucumber, were actually a fruit - because they had seeds inside! We drew pictures of the different fruit and veg and will use these to create a lovely new frieze. Mrs Wisely also brought in a mushroom growing kit and we helped to plant the seeds. The box is now sitting on our window sill and we are excited to see what will appear!
When the weather gets colder we love to visit the 'Sunny Side' in the school playground. With the sun being lower, we were fascinated to see how long our shadows were and what happened to them when we changed direction running. Hard as they tried, the teachers just could not catch our shadows when they chased us!
We are building up the length of our explorers walks and this week we went on our biggest adventure this year! After having snack, we headed off doing a 'Bear Hunt' through the School Wood towards Causer, and then came back down the School Path and had some puddle jumping fun!
We noticed lots of different vehicles and reminded ourselves of how to stay safe when we are near a road. We counted the different types of transport we saw - 3 double decker buses, 4 cars, 5 vans, 2 bikes and a plane (in the sky!). We have decided we would like to learn a bit more about transport, so this will be our new topic starting next week. Parents/Carers can help us by looking at the different types of transport you see when you are out and about, and discuss who might be using them, what would they be carrying, where might they be going, etc.
We ended our week in our jammies to help raise money for 'Children in Need' - thanks for bringing in the pennies to donate to the school collection!
Have a lovely weekend all, and we look forward to seeing you next week.
